The South African Menopause Society (SAMS) is pleased to announce that poster presentations will form part of the upcoming SAMS Congress on 5-6th February 2027, Umhlanga, KZN.
We invite postgraduate students, registrars, fellows, medical officers, consultants and other interested researchers within the academic departments to submit their original research related to menopause and midlife women’s health for consideration. This initiative aims to promote academic engagement, showcase relevant research and provide emerging researchers with an opportunity to present their work at a national congress.
All accepted submissions will be displayed as e-poster presentations at the congress. The three highest-scoring posters will be selected for an oral presentation during the scientific programme.
The following awards will be offered:
- The overall winner will receive a cash prize of R5,000.
- The congress registration fees for the top three finalists will be covered.
- The top three will also receive a years membership subscription to SAMS.

The research must be original and relate to menopause and midlife women’s health. All submissions must be in EnglishThere will be a link for abstract submission on the SAMS website. Once accepted more details will be sent as to how to upload your e-poster
Before you submit
- Registration for the Congress is not required to submit an abstract.
- Each person is allowed to submit an abstract for a poster on the congress topic as presenting author
- it’s allowed to submit abstracts already presented in other conferences or Scientific Journals
Preparing your poster abstract
- Abstracts should be structured into the following sections if applicable: Context – Objective – Methods – Patient(s) – Intervention(s) – Main Outcome Measure(s) – Result(s) – Conclusions.
- The abstract cannot be longer than 2500 characters including spaces and must be plain text. It is not possible to include tables and images, but you may insert data in the text of the abstract.
Submission of poster abstract
- Abstracts can only be submitted using the on-line form. Abstracts submitted via email are automatically discarded.
- Submit your abstract following the online submission process and upload your file in the appropriate field.
- Once accepted, abstract cannot be modified in any of its parts (authors, content and title). Abstracts received after the deadline will not be accepted.
Acceptance of poster abstract
- Presenting authors of accepted poster abstracts will be notified within 2026 whether their abstract is accepted.
- The correctness of the authors’ personal details is entirely the responsibility of the author who has submitted the abstract.
- The submitting author will be also responsible for all the communication (make sure that a valid email is submitted).
- The abstract submission indicates acknowledgement and consent for publication in the official program
The submitted abstracts will be under a blind-review process. After that, all the abstract submitters will be communicated whether their abstract is accepted. The acceptance letters will be sent between 21 November and 4 December 2026.
